Obama Remembers His Grandmother

Purple People Eater: 12/24/2008
Yesterday, President-elect Barack Obama and his family headed to the Oahu seaside to hold a small memorial service for his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham.

Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham was born October 22, 1922.  She and her husband Stanley raised grandson Barack from the age of 10 in their Honolulu apartment.  Madelyn passed away just two days before her grandson was elected to the office of President.

Obama, who fondly referred to his grandmother as "Toot," and his half sister Maya Soetoro-Ng were seen tossing flower petals into the ocean.  As the family headed back to its vehicles, Barack lifted his wife Michelle in a joyful embrace.

I often get the shits and giggles at memorial services too. Who doesn't? Whats the big deal? She was just a typical white person whom Michelle didn't bother to go see when the old white woman was on her deathbed. BTW Michelle needs someone to dress her. Her outfits look like crap.

yes...this is a private personal time for family....unfortunately Obama is now big news and what everyone wants to see...I feel the same as others...this photo spread is pushing the envelope...but I have to admit....seeing Obama scooping up Michelle in that last pic. brought comfort to my heart...how refreshing it is to see Our Upcoming President and First Lady so taken with each other...I can see the Love in both of their eyes for each other and their children, its truly wonderful and what I feel this country needs...it makes my heart beam with happiness...

Chic I can only pray a person like you didnt have the balls to go to a church today. First of all since you are obvious an illiterate his grandmother died Nov 3rd. So its been 6 weeks. The kids were in school until Dec 19th. A memorial service can be held months or years after a death of someone. I feel sorry for you if you are a Christian. These pictures were taken from afar. Sicko

Oh brother! A carefully contrived photo op for the marxists, er masses, and you all fell for it. Zero has no soul, or he would have attended to his grandmother shortly after she died. October, wasn't it? (despite what you've been told) He was 'busy' at the time, flim-flaming all you suckers into thinking he's the savior you've been waiting for.

Isn't it against EPA regulations to scatter human remains on land? I thought cremates had to be at least 3 miles out to sea.

This is a disgrace! His family is having a private momment and you are getting a picture of a memorial! You should be disgusted with yourself. It's ok to get pics on a public beach or public place but not when he is saying goodbye to his grandmother. I'm sure you got a lot of $ for this pic but I'm sure carma will catch up for your greed. Please take these down. This is really very disrespectful

This is gross desrespect - It brings security for the president-elect into question!!

Nice that he takes time out of his busy Christmas vacation to have a memorial for his grandmother. I mean it's so inconvenient when people die and you have to stop what you are doing, lug your family to a funeral and all. Heck, why bother having funerals at all? Can't we just store up all the dead family members that have died all year and scatter them when we are all together at Christmas? Much cheaper. And we know the Obama's are poor and scraping for cash, so they have to make the Christmas vacation a dual Holiday/Funeral vacation.

The fact that these photos were taken from afar is proof that you had no business being in the vicinity of this private moment. Is nothing sacred for paparazzi these days? In addition, the fact that you list this item under the heading "G for Gossip" proves that you have no ethical standards whatsoever. Please congratulate Chris for the "exclusive" photos. Also let Chris know that the photos were exclusive because no one else is low enough to intrude on a private family memorial. Nice job Chris, nice job.

Andrea says:

I'm sure he really wanted such a special and private moment broadcast to the world. Thanks for showing what an invasion of privacy truly means and perpetuating the horrible image of the paparazzi and media. There's a line and you've crossed it. It's incredibly disrespectful and as a real journalist, I'm disappointed in your misuse of our code of ethics.

I'm so pleased the man and his sister finally had the time to put his dear grandmother to rest. What a wonderful tribue. Sad, she died the night before, but I bet she knew.. and in my belief, she was and is watching with beams of pride.
